The Frankfurter Singgemeinschaft

Over 60 years the Frankfurter Singgemeinschaft has developed a strong reputation in the Frankfurt choir scene as a quality choir of amateur singers performing at a high level.

Our repertoire includes madrigals, religious music and secular compositions of all epochs up to contemporary music.

In our two annual concerts the programme ranges from a capella pieces to major works such as the Requiem by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Carmina Burana by Carl Orff, the Christmas Oratorio by Johann Sebastian Bach or Elias by Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy.

We regularly perform with the Chamber Orchestra Collegium Musicum Frankfurt. Once a year we give a concert with our partner choir St. Martinus in Hattersheim.

When in October 2005 the new choirmaster, Jens-Uwe Schunk, took office it became his ambition to lead the choir to a high tonal quality and to a stylistically sophisticated interpretation. We are well on the way to achieving this, particularly because of the professionalism and pedagocical skills of Jens-Uwe.

Our choir consists of 70 active members of all ages from diverse musical backgrounds and experience – who share the great joy and enthusiasm of singing together. There is regular voice training through weekly rehearsals and choir weekends, so that voices and intonation can be trained and improved.

Choir practice on weekends and excursions provide a good opportunity to get to know people and make new friends.

The choir is financed by membership fees and donations.
